Frequently Asked Questions About RTA Cabinets | RTA Direct

Frequently Asked Questions About RTA Cabinets

Are RTA cabinets good quality?

Yes. Modern RTA (Ready-to-Assemble) cabinets can offer the same construction quality as many showroom and custom cabinet brands. The cabinet lines sold by RTA Direct feature plywood cabinet boxes, dovetail drawer boxes, soft-close hinges, and soft-close full-extension drawer slides.

The quality of an RTA cabinet depends on the manufacturer and construction specifications rather than whether it ships assembled or flat-packed.

How long do RTA cabinets last?

Quality RTA cabinets can last 20 years or longer when properly installed and maintained. Cabinet lifespan depends on construction quality, materials, installation quality, and daily use.

Many of our cabinet lines feature plywood construction and premium hardware designed for long-term durability.

Are plywood cabinets better than particle board cabinets?

Plywood cabinets are generally considered more durable and moisture-resistant than particle board cabinets. Plywood also offers superior screw-holding strength and performs better in kitchens, bathrooms, and humid environments.

All of RTA Direct's most popular cabinet lines feature plywood cabinet boxes.  We don't sell Particle board cabinetry.

What is the difference between RTA and assembled cabinets?

The primary difference is how the cabinets are shipped.

RTA cabinets arrive flat-packed and are assembled during installation. Assembled cabinets arrive fully built and ready to install.

Once installed, there is typically no difference in appearance or functionality between a properly assembled RTA cabinet and an assembled cabinet from the same manufacturer.

How long does it take to receive cabinets from RTA Direct?

Most orders arrive within approximately two weeks of order placement.

Typical timeline:

  • Order processing: 3-5 business days
  • Shipping transit: 2-5 business days

Rush shipping options are available on many cabinet lines for customers with accelerated project schedules.

With Rush option of $150, we can generally have RTA cabinets to your door within a week.

Are soft-close drawers and doors worth it?

Most homeowners consider soft-close hardware one of the most valuable cabinet upgrades available. Soft-close hinges and drawer glides reduce noise, minimize wear and tear, and create a higher-end feel.

All of the cabinet lines offered by RTA Direct include soft-close hardware as a standard feature.

Are RTA Cabinets Worth It?

For most homeowners, RTA cabinets provide an excellent balance of quality and value. Because they ship flat-packed, transportation and storage costs are lower than assembled cabinetry. This allows homeowners to purchase higher-quality cabinets for less money while maintaining durability, functionality, and appearance.

Are White Shaker Cabinets Still in Style?

Yes. White shaker cabinets remain one of the most popular cabinet styles in the United States. Their clean lines, timeless appearance, and versatility make them a popular choice for traditional, transitional, and modern kitchens. White shaker cabinets also tend to have strong resale appeal.

What Cabinet Color Has the Best Resale Value?

White remains the most popular cabinet color for resale value because it appeals to a broad range of buyers and complements most design styles. Other popular options include warm whites, light grays, natural wood finishes, and soft greige tones.

Is there MDF in your cabinets?

Some painted cabinet doors utilize HDF stiles, rails, and center panels. This is a common industry practice because engineered wood panels are less susceptible to expansion and contraction than solid wood center panels.  We also offer all wood options with a small increase in cost.

Most cabinet boxes, face frames, drawer boxes, and structural components remain plywood or hardwood construction.  Boxes are 1/2" Furniture grade (A-Grade) plywood finished to match on the exterior and UV coated (clear coated) on the interior.

What are the disadvantages of RTA cabinets?

The primary disadvantage is assembly time. Unlike assembled cabinets, RTA cabinets require assembly before installation.

However, RTA cabinets often provide significant savings compared to pre-assembled cabinetry while offering similar construction quality and appearance.

Do RTA cabinets increase home value?

Kitchen and bathroom remodels consistently rank among the most valuable home improvement projects. Quality cabinetry can improve functionality, aesthetics, and buyer appeal.

Well-designed plywood cabinet systems with modern finishes can contribute positively to resale value.
